After the first exhaustive report was done on the 10,000 ground zero workers? medical records, it implies that the workers are not as sick as they made out to be. The city?s review, found that as many as 30 percent of the workers reported nothing more than common symptoms like runny nose or cough. Their records, according to the review, did not indicate that doctors had ever diagnosed a specific disease. What the lawyers for the city also found was that many documents were incomplete and inconsistent, making it hard to determine when and for how long their illnesses continued.

However, the lawsuit that the city faces is due to claims of firefighters, police officers, construction workers and others who say they became ill because they were not given proper breathing equipment during the nine-month rescue and recovery operation at ground zero. The city is facing a large financial responsibility to the workers if the court deems it necessary. Therefore, it would be in the city?s best interest to play down the claims from the workers to negate their liability.

We were trying to protect our clients, because we just didn?t know if they were related," Mr. Groner said in an interview. Mr. Groner accused the city of distorting the true medical condition of the workers, saying that many upper respiratory ailments like runny nose can be symptoms of or precursors to debilitating lower respiratory problems and obstructive lung diseases.

Walking through the finish line in San Diego, George Martin was exhausted and happy. The 3,003 mile journey was to raise awareness for the 9/11 rescue workers. Martin, 55, headed up the Journey for 911, a charity to raise money for the 9/11 rescue workers who suffered respiratory problems after working in the dust at the World Trade Center. Martin called the 9/11 more heroic than any professional athlete. Martin said in a statement, ?Many who answered our nation?s call for help now cannot even walk up the steps in their own homes due to severe respiratory and other ailments. Some are dying. They deserve our help.?

Not only did Martin raise $2 million with contributions from Maine to California, but the $2 million will be matched by another $2 million in medical services from Hackensack University Medical Center, North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health Systems and Mount Sinai Medical Center in Manhattan.

Martin?s journey started on September 16^th and took nine months, in which ended in San Diego on Saturday June 21^st. Martin went through 24 pairs of shoes, averaging 22 miles per day, and lost 40 lbs along the way. Martin started training 2 months before hand by walking 13 miles a day. Now vice president of sports marketing for AXA Equitable, Martin was inspired and energized meeting different people along the way. Martin said, ?the true measure of our success will be when we can substantially raise the national awareness about and funds needed to provide proper care. Most of these rescue and recovery workers are not adequately covered for or are able to obtain the medical care they simply must have.?

The most gratifying part is that Martin raised $4 million for the rescue workers. People all over the nation came together yet again to help those who help others.
